Preschool

During the school year beginning September 2008, Price Charities underwrote operating costs for two preschool classrooms at Rosa Parks Elementary School providing space for 48 children. The investment in preschool capacity at Rosa Parks is a pilot program to determine the benefits and financial sustainability for having preschool incorporated into a public elementary school. In the case of Rosa Parks, the preschool children have the added advantages of access to Rosa Parks parent center and health clinic which are part of the school complex.

San Diego State University faculty supports the preschool with research and guidance on best practices. There is some indication that in the coming school year the preschool will receive public funding. The longer range outcome objective is that all elementary schools, especially those in City Heights, will have preschools on their campus.
