The Tisch Family Zoological Garden (Jerusalem Zoo) The Jerusalem Zoo is a beautiful oasis in the heart of the City of Jerusalem. Zoo Director Shai Doron provides outstanding leadership setting the highest standards in animal care and breeding as well as overall Zoo maintenance and operations.
For the past two years the Jerusalem Zoo has been the number one venue in Israel for overall attendance. However, the Zoo's most important mission is serving as a peaceful place where all elements of Israel's society can enjoy animals housed in environmentally friendly and animal friendly enclosures.
The first project of the San Diego donors was the Animal House - an interactive classroom and education center. Learning activities in the Animal House are for Jews and Arabs, young and old, secular and religious and are intended to teach and raise awareness of wildlife conservation and environmental issues. Additionally, one of the most important programs running in the Animal House is the Animal Assisted Therapy project for children with special needs, who come on a weekly basis to participate in this program. The Zoo facilitates approximately 60 groups who participate in this important community activity of the Zoo.
